Brett Young Committed To Getting Healthier One Year Ago
Country singer Brett Young says he has made a commitment to a become a better, healthier version of himself – and he’s not looking back!
The 44-year-old shared during an interview with Today that it was time to start taking care of himself.
“It’s a new chapter in my life,” he explained. “I’ve jumped really deep into health and wellness and trying to hang around longer for my family. It’s kind of like Brett Young 2.0 at the same time.”
Young and his wife, Taylor Mills Young, share two young daughters Presley (5) and Rowan (3).
“It started with alcohol,” the singer said of his journey. “We cut that out at the beginning of last year. Mornings with babies were not feeling great. It wasn’t serving me, my life or my career, so we cut that out.”
The “In Case You Didn’t Know” singer admitted that he always has his girls on the front of his mind.
“And then I just started thinking, ‘Well, what else can we do to start hanging around longer for the kiddos?’ There’s a lot of information available to us. I went down that rabbit hole and I’ve just been chasing it ever since.”
Brett Young’s Journey As A Father Has Shaped His Music
Young has been open about how being married and having children has changed the way he looks at the world.
“I’ve always been hell-bent on being in the moment with everything that I write about, but I had a realization in the middle of writing the last record that being married and starting a family kind of changes what you can and can’t do in that world,” Young previously shared with PEOPLE.
The country star even wrote one song on 2.0 for his daughter, Rowan.
“Me and my wife were sure that we wanted four kids, but then we had this really overwhelming emotional experience bringing Rowan home from the hospital,” he explained. “Suddenly, we felt like our family was full with two children. Rowan’s existence in our life was so powerful that it kind of changed our plan for us as a family and completed us.”
Young says that him and his wife are grateful for the two girls they have, and he is content with that.
“There’s a lot of people that aren’t lucky enough to have reached that point in their life where they feel, ‘This is our family unit, this is the plan and moving forward we protect this and this is what we take care of,’” he shared. “I think to some people that can seem like it comes with this negative side where there’s now nothing new to look forward to.”
